Look of Love 1968   Laurindo de Almeida The look of love Capitol Records 1968

This is the shining jewel of Laurindo de Almeida. If any bossa nova album deserves the top price its this one. “The Look of Love” from 1968. The album was made in an era of post success from his albums “Guitar from Ipanema” and “A man and a woman”. It shows a more mature Laurindo Almeida and the guitar play is more tight and the melodies superb. The criticism he got from “A man and a woman” being to boring and obvious in his play is now being removed and the result is PURE MAGIC. This albums is long gone out of print and are being made possible by downloading in MP3 on THIS link. Enjoy!

Music Of The Brazilian Masters mp3 downloadMusic of the Brazilian Masters

The great Brazilian guitarists Laurindo Almeida, Charlie Byrd and Carlos Barbosa-Lima team up for a tightly arranged set that (even with a Jobim tune and an original apiece by Byrd and Almeida) is mostly comprised of Brazilian classical music. The guitarist’s distinctive but complementary tones add a great deal of beauty to the quiet but often-complex music. Fans of the acoustic guitar will find this CD well worth acquiring.// Scott Yanow All Music

Laurindo Almeida was a genius. His arrangements are top notch, and the depth of feeling is deep. There is “duende”, here. The knowledge of life and death. (I think Laurindo was fighting cancer at the time) This is no superficial ego driven see how fast I can play project. It is taking the qualities of form and balance and design of great melodies from the classical tradition and breaking them free in new interpretations with a Latin jazz tinge. There is something deeply satisfying in this music.

Laurindo was one of the master of this special genre. // boldstrummer at customer rewievs amazon.com

Moon River (From “Breakfast At Tiffany’s”) mp3 downloadBreakfast at Tiffanys mp3 download at Amazon

When you think of Henry Mancini, you inevitably think of either “Peter Gunn” or “Moon River.” (Well, maybe “The Pink Panther”–but that became a cartoon show, so it doesn’t count!) Breakfast at Tiffany’s gave the world the latter tune, and that beautiful melody recurs throughout this soundtrack LP, which remained No. 1 on the Billboard pop charts for 12 weeks in 1961. (Music for Peter Gunn in 1959 was Mancini’s only other No. 1 album.) The soundtrack doesn’t include Andy Williams’s hit single of “Moon River,” but then neither did the film. It does, however, take you through the many moods of the film (and the exploits of Miss Holly Golightly), with an emphasis on Latin influences in the forms of “Latin Golightly” and “Moon River Cha Cha.” (with guitar of L. Almeida) Nevertheless, one common complaint has been that RCA could’ve remastered the music and added additional tracks to flesh out the CD. Maybe in the future… –Bill Holdship

The 13 selections on this 1998 sampler are drawn from seven of guitarist Laurindo Almeida’s Concord recordings. The Brazilian acoustic player is mostly heard in quiet trios with bassist Bob Magnusson and several different drummers performing material that ranges from “Liza” to “Slaughter on Tenth Avenue,” “Unaccustomed Bach” and “Chopin A La Breve.” Changes of pace are offered by three quartet numbers that match Almeida with the highly compatible guitarist Charlie Byrd and a classical piece (”Invocation to Shango”) that has Almeida, Byrd and the third guitar of Carlos Barbosa-Lima in a quintet. A good introduction to Laurindo Almeida’s later period. // Scott Yanow All Music
